A North Carolina native, Stephen Anderson joined the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in February 1992. Previously, he served as a trumpeter with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and the Carillon Brass Quintet for two seasons, and taught trumpet at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. Stephen has also performed as a member of the New Mexico Symphony, San Diego Symphony, Santa Fe Opera Orchestra, Chicago Chamber Brass, and Chicago Civic Orchestra. In the summer of 1988, he served as Principal Trumpet of the Spoleto Festival Orchestra. He played with the DSO brass quintet at the opening ceremonies of the 2005 Major League Baseball All-Star game.Stephen received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois and his master’s degree from Arizona State University—both in Trumpet Performance. He is a member of the Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings and also performs chamber music around the Detroit metropolitan area whenever possible.
